Concept Engineering's Support for Qt Provides Boost to C++ EDA Developers

Industry-standard schematic generation and viewing software is now available for popular Qt graphical user interface application framework

FREIBURG, Germany – March 12, 2001 – Software engineers using C++ to develop high-performance, multi-platform electronic design automation (EDA) tools got a boost today when Concept Engineering announced support for the Qt graphical user interface (GUI) application framework from Trolltech AS.

The support is available through Concept's new NlviewQT Widget software component. The Nlview Widget is a family of schematic generation and viewing software components for the most popular GUI environments, including Qt, Java, Tcl/Tk and MFC. These customizable components help software developers shorten design cycles, lower development and maintenance costs, and increase product quality for their complex EDA tools. The first OEM customers have already developed EDA products based on Concept Engineering's new NlviewQT Widget software component.

"We are happy to welcome Concept Engineering as the latest member of our Qt Technology Solution Partner program," said Eirik Aavitsland, Product Manager, Trolltech AS. "The NlviewQT software will give developers of electronic design tools the same cross-platform advantage as Java, while keeping the performance of C++."

"High performance and multi-platform support are two important issues that our EDA customers expect from us," said Gerhard Angst, president and CEO of Concept Engineering. "With our new Qt software component, EDA software developers can produce very fast GUIs that integrate tightly with their existing C++ based core technology. As a result, design automation tools are available sooner on a wider variety of platforms."

Lothar Linhard, CTO of Concept Engineering, said, "NlviewQT combines the power of the industry-proven Nlview Widget technology with the trendsetting Qt GUI framework that I expect to become one of the top choices for future graphical EDA applications."

Availability

Concept Engineering's NlviewQT Widget software component is available immediately for the most common UNIX platforms and for Windows.
