Nlview ActiveX Online Demo

What you need

To run this demo you need the Microsoft Internet Explorer version 3.x or later running on top of Windows95  or Windows NT4.0 or later.  Additionally, the Nlview ActiveX control requires the MFC 4.2 DLLs installed on your PC.  If these DLLs are not installed, the latest versions (about 600 kB) will be automatically downloaded from the Microsoft site according to the Microsoft standard.  For details, please see the notes about the MFC 4.2 DLL Installation below.

Security Settings

To run ActiveX components on your Internet Explorer, you must enable downloading and execution of unsigned ActiveX controls and the execution of ActiveX scripts.  Please find the instructions below on how to make these settings on Internet Explorer 3 or on Internet Explorer 4.

Run the demo

Go to the Nlview ActiveX Demo Page.

The control itself is a canvas-like area with two scroll bars, that displays the generated schematic.

Integrating the Nlview ActiveX control into your Microsoft Application is as easy as running the control inside the Internet Explorer. Please contact us, if you are interested in our Nlview control or if you have problems with the demo.

Details about the Nlview ActiveX Installation

The  Nlview ActiveX Demo Page  includes the Nlview ActiveX Control (nlview.ocx) that is automatically installed on your PC by downloading and extracting the cabinet file ax/nlview.cab (file size about 470kB).  The installation and registration of the ActiveX Control is automatically done by the standard Microsoft Internet Component Download mechanism.  The extracted files will reside in the "ActiveX Cache" directory (defaults to %WINDIR%\occache) specified in the 'Internet Settings' section of your registry.

The demo itself needs one EDIF data file. This file will be downloaded from the Web to the TEMP directory of your computer, when you press the 'Load Data' button on the demo page. The name of the file will be %TEMP%\nlvdemo.edf (file size 64kB). After the Nlview Control has read the data this file will be removed.

MFC 4.2 DLL Installation

The Nlview ActiveX Control requires the following system DLLs:
  • Mfc42.dll    4,21,0,7022
  • Msvcrt.dll    5,0,0,7022
  • Olepro32.dll    5,0,4055,1
According to the Microsoft Standard, the installation process checks for those DLLs.  If you don't have the appropriate DLLs on your PC,  then they are automatically  installed or updated by loading the latest versions directly from the Microsoft site (you will be asked to confirm the installation).

If you want to install/update the DLLs  manually, follow these steps:

  • Download the mfc42 cabinet file from http://activex.microsoft.com/controls/vc/mfc42.cab (file size about 600k)
  • On Windows NT run expand mfc42.cab on Windows95 run extract mfc42.cab in a Command Prompt window. This will generate the self-extracting executable named mfc42.exe.
  • Start the MFC DLL Installation by running mfc42.exe.

Digital signature

The cabinet file used to download the Nlview ActiveX Control is not digitally signed. But to our best knowledge, the cabinet file, the contained Nlview ActiveX Control and the whole demo is safe and contains no viruses or other security risks. To enable your Internet Explorer to download the nlview cabinet file, you must follow the settings instructions for Internet Explorer 3 or Internet Explorer 4.
