Instructions

First of all, press the 'Load Data' button to download an example EDIF netlist file from the Web. This step also generates and displays the schematic.

Mouse events in the Nlview Control area

The left mouse button (button 1) is used for object selection and zooming (strokes):

• A single mouse click selects an object. If you have the SHIFT key pressed, then a single mouse click appends an object to the selection list. On each change of the selection, Nlview will send a selection notify event and you can see the selection list in the text area below the control.
• A double-click on a block instance (there are two rectangular block instances in the schematic) makes Nlview dive down the design hierarchy (generates a new schematic). The demo example has two hierarchy levels.
• For zooming, perform a press-drag-release operation (simple "strokes"). Depending on the drag direction, one of four actions take place:

  action	drag direction
  zoom in	to south-east
  zoom out	to north-east
  zoom fit	to south-west
  hierarchy go up	to north-west

  The "hierarchy go up" stroke will only work if you have dived down (by button-1 double click) before.

• Perform a press-drag-release operation to move the schematic.

Run the Demo Scripts

This Demo is started by the 'Load Data' button. After this, you will see a schematic and you can press the other buttons to highlight some "interesting parts" of the schematic.

The Nlview Control does not "compute" input cones, timing values, etc. It only presents those data. For each of the action buttons described below, you can press the corresponding view button to get a separate source window displaying the JavaScript for this action.

Here are some comments about the action buttons:

• Cone highlights the input cone for component V25 by defining three different colors for each of V25's input pins. This function also switches to greymode.
• Timing adds some pin attributes to the input cone and zooms to the end of the cone. As you press this button again and again, the screen will move to the other components of the cone. This function does not change the highlight information.
• ERC zooms to and highlights "ERC violations"; the first is a SET/CLR problem on two flip flops, and the second (if you press this button again) is a net driven by two gates.
• Sim adds some pin attributes to the components ltc_1, U8 and U131 and zooms to them. Each time, you press this button again, you will see different values (repeated after 17 steps).
• Print prints the current view of the schematic on your default printer (black on white).
• Reset removes all highlight information and pin attributes and switches greymode off. You may want to repeat the demo steps 'Timing' and 'ERC' in non-grey mode.
